Amy & Morgan

How did you first meet?

We first met in high school when we were about 14. Morgan kept messaging me until I eventually started responding! We spoke for around eight months before we officially got together and we’ve pretty much grown up together ever since.

How did you propose?

Morgan proposed in 2024 after we’d been together for around nine years. We’d always talked about renovating a house together, so when we finally got the keys to our bungalow, Morgan told me the previous owners had left us a present in the living room. I walked in looking for it, turned around and he was down on one knee! I had absolutely no idea. A couple of months later, while renovating the house, we pulled down some insulation from the ceiling and a little brown envelope fell out with “ring” written on it. Inside was a 22-carat gold wedding band. It fitted me perfectly and even matched my engagement ring, so I knew I wanted to use it as my wedding ring. I’m quite sentimental, so it just felt like it was meant to be.

What attracted you to the venue?

We’d never actually been to a wedding at Fairyhill before, although we knew people who had married there. We loved the scenery and especially the outdoor spaces. I was adamant I wanted to get married outside, even if it rained! There’s just something about being surrounded by nature that I love, and the garden felt perfect for us. The Quickie package was also a massive selling point. We didn’t want a huge wedding during the day and I loved the idea of sharing that part with our closest family and friends, then having a bigger party with everyone in the evening. We only booked in January and got married around six months later, which actually suited me perfectly because I’m quite indecisive! Having a shorter turnaround meant I had to make decisions rather than having years to change my mind. I’m also a teacher, so a July wedding worked perfectly for us and meant we could head off on our honeymoon afterwards.

What was your first dance song?

Our first dance was Sweet Symphony by Joy Oladokun and Chris Stapleton. Morgan found it while he was looking for first dance songs and sent it to me. The more I listened to the lyrics, the more fitting it felt. We’ve been together since we were so young and have been there for each other through lots of ups and downs, so it just felt right for us. We didn’t practise our first dance before the wedding though, so that’s one thing I would recommend doing!

What made your wedding unique?

I loved that our wedding felt like us. My bridesmaids all wore different colours, which made me so happy because I loved how bright everything looked. Morgan’s sister also wrote her own poem and read it during our ceremony, which was such a lovely personal moment. Morgan even made our wedding cake himself! A few days before the wedding, I decided to order parasols for me and the bridesmaids because the weather was looking sunny. It was a very last-minute Amazon order, but they ended up creating some of my favourite photos from the day. I also loved how free-flowing Fairyhill felt. We could move between the garden, patio and Georgian Lounge throughout the day, then head into the K Room for the evening. It felt like a completely different atmosphere once the party started. We also had Diamond Dogs playing, so we could really celebrate with everyone.

What did you wear?

My dress was from Timeless Elegance in Cardiff. We booked the wedding and pretty much straight away my sister told me she’d booked me in to go dress shopping the following week! I went to three dress shops in one day and tried on loads of different styles. The main things I knew I wanted were lace and long sleeves. I ended up choosing a full lace dress and had the sleeves made detachable so I could take them off in the evening and properly dance. I didn’t want something where everyone would say, “I knew she’d wear that”, but as soon as I tried my dress on, everyone who came shopping with me agreed it was completely me. I wanted something timeless that I’d still love looking back on years from now.

What advice do you have for others?

Do it your own way. You don’t have to follow a traditional wedding route or do something just because you feel like you should. It can be difficult when it comes to things like the guest list because you feel as though you have to invite everyone, but ultimately you need to do what suits the two of you. We wanted an intimate wedding during the day and a big party in the evening, and that’s exactly what we did. Just do what makes you happy. The people around you will be happy for you too. And practise your first dance!

Any final words about your venue?

Everything was perfect. I never felt like Morgan and I had to change our day to suit the venue. Instead, it felt like Fairyhill adapted around us and the wedding we wanted. Leanne and Mark were amazing on the day and kept us relaxed, even when there were a few stressful moments. I was running late, our welcome mirror blew over and smashed in the wind, and the flowers arrived just before I was due to walk down the aisle, but the team never made me feel stressed about any of it. I’d even forgotten the place names I’d spent ages making, but they simply sorted everything out for us. Our guests would never have known anything had gone wrong. Everyone was constantly checking in to make sure we were okay and had everything we needed. I felt like I could completely be myself around the team and they went above and beyond to make everything feel seamless.
